Sequence the services

Installation order is an engineering decision.

Mechanical, electrical and plumbing installations compete for the same physical space and access. A workable sequence depends on geometry, support arrangements and the ability of later trades to complete their connections. Installing the first available material is not always progress.

Review congested areas before work reaches them. Compare routes, access zones and the order in which supports and equipment must be placed. The people responsible for installation can identify practical constraints that are easy to overlook in a drawing review.

Connect procurement decisions to the sequence. A delayed component may block several disciplines even if its individual installation duration is short. Distinguish equipment that can arrive later from items required to release the next area of work.

Protect completed work while preserving access for the remaining activities. Temporary storage, inspection and testing need space too. Agree how a change in one discipline will be assessed before another team closes the area.

Update the sequence when site conditions change. A programme is useful when it reflects the actual state of installation and the dependencies ahead. Review the next handover with the receiving trade so that apparent completion does not leave a hidden obstruction.
